If you’re like me, you like your food to have some flavor in it. Seriously, who wants to eat boiled chicken and steamed vegetables all day? That’s why we season our food with salt, pepper, herbs and spices.
But, here’s a shocker for you: If you’re putting herbs and spices on your food, you could be filling your body with toxic chemicals without even knowing it.
A new undercover investigation by Consumer Reports reveals these everyday spices are contaminated with dangerously high levels of toxins.
In their investigation, scientists tested 126 samples of every common spice you can think of, from basil to oregano to chili powder and more. They tested popular brands like McCormick, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. They tested organic and regular, domestic and international brands.
And what they found shocked them.
One out of every three spice samples contained dangerous levels of heavy metals like arsenic, lead and cadmium. 9 out of every 10 samples of basil and ginger were contaminated. And every single sample of thyme and oregano contained high levels of toxic metals.
It didn’t matter where the spice was grown, if the spice was organic, or what brand it was. No single brand, spice, or country of origin was safe from contamination.
But that’s just the beginning…
As you probably realize, most recipes contain more than one spice. And the more spices you mix together, the greater the contamination.
Take your typical chili for example. If you combine cumin, chili powder, and oregano like the recipe suggests, you’ll end up with more toxic metals than anyone should consume in a day. And that’s in just one bowl!
When you eat foods containing contaminated spices, heavy metals are absorbed in your stomach and intestines. From there they can spread out and damage your entire body including your skin, lungs, liver, kidneys and more.
Not only that, but new studies show these heavy metals can cross the blood brain barrier undetected and nest deep within your brain. Once inside your brain, the heavy metals release highly reactive oxygen species that bind with your brain cells. These highly reactive oxygen species damage the cells’ DNA and prevent the cells from communicating.
Over time, these toxic metals build up in your brain. They compete with good metals your brain needs like zinc. Eventually, the toxic metals crowd out the essential metals accelerating brain cell death.
These heavy metals also amplify each other's effects. For example, mixing even low levels of mercury with lead found in spices creates a toxic cocktail that’s 100 TIMES more deadly than mercury or lead alone. Throw in some arsenic and cadmium from spices like oregano and thyme, and the effects are more severe.
Worse, toxic metals like cadmium can survive in your body for decades. And continue to accumulate in your brain over time.
Recently, scientists performed autopsies on the brains of 228 people ages 1 to 100 from all walks of life and backgrounds. They took samples from each brain and measured them for toxic metals. Then they graded every sample from Grade 0, no contamination, to Grade 3, the highest level of contamination.
And here’s what they found…
As a group, folks aged 60 to 69 were the most likely to have toxic metal contamination in their brains. While folks aged 70 to 79 were the most likely to score a dangerous Grade 3 level contamination.
So, if you’re over age 60 and you suffer from memory problems, this could be the reason why.
The good news is there’s a simple solution that can safely and gently remove these heavy metals from your body. Not only that, but this same solution enables you to flush out additional toxins that new studies show are contaminating your body. I’ll tell you all about this simple solution in just a moment.
But first, let me show you why arsenic, cadmium, and lead aren’t the only dangerous toxins ending up in your food. Additional studies have found DDT, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), mercury, and dioxins in many popular foods. And every day more and more of these chemicals slowly seep into our bodies.
Now, you may already know about the dangers of toxins. And you may already do everything you can to avoid them — like eating organic food, drinking filtered water, or using natural products in your home. But, as I just mentioned, your body may still be contaminated even if you take all these precautions.
In another recent study, scientists tested a group of families for 107 different man-made toxins. They tested blood and urine samples from each family member. Every family member was tested including grandparents, parents and children.
Here's what they found… Every single person from the youngest to the oldest was contaminated with toxins. And the family members with the most toxins in their bodies were between the ages of 58 and 92.
In fact, scientists discovered over 63 different chemicals in the bodies of the oldest generation! They found PCBs, organochlorine pesticides, brominated flame retardants, perfluorinated chemicals, and more.
